THE COSY APARTMENT:

The apartment is in a typical late nineteenth century Umbertine-style building, in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, Esquilino district. The elegance of the buildings can still be seen: the imposing columns, the imperial stucco facades and the high arches. The architecture follows the Savoy’s style, which the Italian royal family wanted to replicate in Rome when the capital was transferred from Turin. Today, this architecture has blended with a more modern and multi-ethnic city. dAndy suite aims to give you a bit of a flavour of the Savoy’s period…in a dandy and cheeky way! It brings together the classic and modern, reflecting the history of the apartment, the building and the eternal city. I have personally taken care of every detail to make you feel welcome.
The apartment can accommodate up to three guests and comprises of:
• A double bedroom
• A sitting area with sofa bed (bed 120 cm)
• A fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, oven, refrigerator and coffee maker

Walking through the city:

TOUR A: BETWEEN PAPAL BASILICAS AND BYZANTINE MOSAICS;

By taking a 15-minute walk from dAndy suite, towards via Emanuele Filiberto, you can immediately immerse yourself in the mysticism and the magnificence of St. John Lateran basilica, the oldest and most important of the four papal basilicas and the cathedral of Rome. From here you can choose to reach the church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme and then up towards the beautiful Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. The walk can be completed by visiting the hidden jewel of Santa Praxedes that hosts the most ancient and precious Byzantine mosaics in Rome.

Alternatively, once you get to St. John and can turn left and go up to the homonymous square. From there, retracing the path that every year the Pope did in procession, pass the Egyptian obelisk and head towards the Church of San Clemente. A visit here is a must, and you can then relax drinking an aperitif under the shade of the Colosseum.

TOUR B: BETWEEN THE IMPERIAL ROME AND THE HIPSTER MONTI;

From dAndy suite turn right and go down toward Piazza Dante, cross Via Merulana and walk through the neighborhood Colle Oppio. The noise of traffic will gradually decrease and you will be absorbed by the Art Nouveau architecture of the residential buildings or seduced by the shop windows of the Cipriani’s bakery. Between a jam tart and a box of artisanal cookies, you can still experience the hidden an authentic Roman atmosphere. Then you enter in the Colle Oppio gardens, kept under the famous Nerone’s Golden Domus. You will be captured by the green pine trees towering and filtering the sunslight. You may see and hear kids playning football in the streets. And before you know, you’ll realise that down there, just at the end of the street there is a well known historic monument … you will look a bit closer and you’ll see … yes, it’s the unmistakeable Colosseum!

After visiting the amphitheater Flavio, you may need a quick break, before resuming your tour of the Imperial Forums. Make your way towards Monti area. In ancient Rome this district was the “Suburra” slums made of bars and taverns, where the people indulged on vice and lust. Today is the headquarters where hipsters, artists, craftsmen have opened their studios and stylish shops. Via del Boschetto, Via Urbana and Via dei serpenti, all converge in the Piazzetta Monti. Here, around its Renaissance fountain, Roman and tourists meet friends for a chat and a glass of wine. Salute!

TOUR C: BETWEEN A CARBONARA PASTA AND A GOURMET ICE CREAM;

For those who are coming to Rome in search of the world famuos italian cuisine, dAndy suite is just a stone thrown away from some of the best restaurants in the capital.

If your are looking to try the excellent Roman carbonara pasta (spaghetti with pecorino cheese, egg and italian bacon), you should pay a visit to Danilo’s trattoria. The restaurant is located 100 meters from DAndy suite, going down towards via Emanuele Filiberto and turning into Via Petrarca. It’s a typical roman “trattoria”, elected by a number of food critics as the best in the capital. A word of advice: call in advance and make a reservation to avoid disapointment.

Two other great options are: Vecchia Roma in via Ferruccio, and Trattoria Monti in Via di San Vito.The former, another typical Roman trattoria, is famous for its pasta dishes topped with Parmesan and pecorino, while the latter is a restaurant with a great choice of delicious dishes, including some typical recipes from Marche. Regoli pastry in Via dello Statuto is another excellent place that should be visited by those who are devoted to great quality food. You must try the profitterol and the doughnut of St. Joseph (unfortunately only available on the Saint’s day, March 19). Here everything is simply exquisite and whatever your choice, chocolate eclairs or “maritozzo” and cream, will be absolutely delicious.

WHERE TO GO

Another great place for pastries is the historic bakery Panella in Via Merulana. An absolute dream for foddies and open all the day. Start with the imperial breakfast, which include a typical coffee with creamy sauce and croissants that rivals the French, and end before dinner with a spritz aperitif or a glass of good wine and all the savory delicatessen.

 And finally we should not forget the famous Italian ice cream or gelato, a true italian obsession. Rome is full of excellent ice cream shops and you will be spoiled for choice. My favourite ice cream shops or gelateria are: Fassi, in Via Principe Eugenio, truly represents the tradition of the ice cream culture in Rome. It is the city’s oldest ice cream parlor – Ice cream Palace – and it provides a real nostalgic experience. The ice cream is of an excellent quality and good value. I absolute love this place!

Fata Morgana is, however, my favourite gelateria and very close to DAndy suite in Piazza degli Zingari in Monti. Ecstasy (blend of chocolate, hazelnut and coffee) is my flavour of choice and highly recommended.

The Roma Capitale authority has put in place a TOURIST ACCOMMODATION TAX. It is €3,50 charge for each night spent in Rome’s accommodation facilities. You can pay cash directly on site. You will be given a personal receipt. The overnight accommodation tax is applicable up to a maximum of 10 consecutive nights within one solar year, provided that you spend the nights at the same accommodation facility. 

Exemptions: children up to age 10, all who accompany patients for health reasons, members of the State police force and the other armed forces.
